Spieth confirms player involvement in next step of PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger

TLDR:

  • Jordan Spieth and other PGA Tour Player Directors are set to meet with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia regarding a potential deal with LIV Golf backers.
  • The PGA Tour has been negotiating with Saudi rivals to unite the world of professional golf since announcing a framework agreement in June.

Jordan Spieth announced that he and his fellow PGA Tour Player Directors have been instructed to meet with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) regarding a pending deal with LIV Golf backers. The PGA Tour has been in talks with their Saudi rivals since last June in an attempt to reunite the professional golf world. After missing the December 31 deadline, negotiations are still ongoing and now the playing members of the PGA Tour are getting involved to help finalize the deal. Spieth confirmed that the Tour’s Player Directors are nearing a meeting with PIF boss Yasir Al-Rumayaan. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan also met with Al-Rumayaan and stated that negotiations are accelerating, with a shared vision to unlock golf’s worldwide potential. Adam Scott, who played a role in the PGA Tour’s decision to partner with Strategic Sports Group earlier in the year, is set to be involved in the proposed meeting and believes it is important that all players meet to move forward with any potential deal. The negotiating parties are hopeful for a positive outcome for the PGA Tour and the sport as a whole.
